The basil plant originally comes from the tropical regions of Asia (including India). These days, the plant grows all over Europe, particularly around the Mediterranean Sea. Verstegen imports basil from Egypt. Fresh basil should have a fresh green colour. Dried basil from Verstegen, by contrast, has a beautiful dark green colour.
